I draw inspiration from the natural world, channeling its beauty and complexity into my hand-built sculptures crafted from clay and wood. Each piece represents a dialogue begun with simple slabs of clay, that I construct to resemble forms that resonate with the essence of nature. I gravitate towards a subdued palette to evoke a sense of calm and introspection, while my use of varied finishing techniques—such as raku and sand blasting—adds a tactile richness to the surface of my work. Through glazes and other exterior treatments, I strive to capture the timeless qualities of geological transformation, where the forces of wind, rain, and sun slowly break down organic matter. This connection to the earth is a vital element of my practice, contrasting with my previous career as a graphic designer, where I often felt constrained by the digital realm. Working with clay grants me a physical freedom and spontaneity, allowing me to explore the organic directions that emerge during the creative process. As my work has evolved, I have embraced an increasingly abstract approach. My early pieces, inspired by delicate blossom and vessel-like shapes, have gradually shifted into more complex forms that suggest structures created by animals and plants. Through my sculpture, I invite you to reflect on the transient nature of existence, and appreciate the beauty in the fleeting moments of life and the eternal cycle of growth and decay. I hope that each piece is not just an object, but a narrative—a reminder of our connection to the natural world.
