ARTIST STATEMENT

With my focus being landscape painting, I have been painting Plein Air for many years and have found this to be an informative adventure.  Viewing the landscape first hand is an incredible learning experience. It is of utmost  importance in training a painter’s eyes to see the nuances that otherwise would not be witnessed in the same light when using a photo.  Several of these paintings  have been painted on location or were started on location and tweaked in the studio.  Others have been painted fully in the studio.  Whether on location or in the studio, the hours of experience from painting Plein Air, filters through into the studio works.

PROCESS

My working process changes whether I am using oil paints, soft pastel or gouache. Changing the medium from time to time forces me to think differently. Although, my painting process is similar with all the mediums, the way they individually are used, is totally different.
