Carolyn Lamuniere

Carolyn Lamuniere

Carolyn has had a long successful career painting, first in New England, then in Santa Fe.  Her  first show was in the Best New England artists at The Decordova Museum and went on from there to win awards and exhibit extensively.  Her work can be found in many collections and has been published in several books.   She is a very private person and prefers to simply paint instead of promote herself. With a background in Art History, a dual citizenship in both Switzerland and the US, she is grounded in the art of the past as well as that of the present.  She believes that art is important because it stimulates the imagination and creates vision.

Artist’s Statement

Carolyn’s art reflects her love of light and shadow and the patterns they create.  She loves architecture believing that somehow the energy of the people who live in their places is absorbed by the walls around them.  Empty rooms, quiet spaces, intense slashing light from mysterious sources fill her paintings.  The spirit in silence.  Her paintings are contemporary but not abstract.  The abstraction is in the composition, her paintings are not random but carefully composed and almost a meditation.

The Process

Oil on canvas, drawn first, then sketched in acrylic, and finally built up in oil stage by stage as each has to dry before the next is painted.
